Legal Basis & Method
- Sec 15: the buyer pays on or before the agreed date, which cannot exceed 45 days from the day of acceptance or deemed acceptance. With no written agreement, payment is due before the appointed day: 15 days from acceptance (Sec 2(b)).
- Deemed acceptance: where the buyer raises no written objection within 15 days of delivery, the day of delivery is the day of acceptance; where an objection is later removed, the day of removal counts. Enter that date in "Accepted On"; if left blank the invoice date is used.
- Sec 16: compound interest with monthly rests at three times the Bank Rate notified by RBI, from the day after the due date, notwithstanding any agreement.
- Method: each complete month after the due date is compounded at rate ÷ 12. The broken period at the end earns simple interest at rate × days ÷ 365 on the compounded balance.
- Sec 23: interest payable under Sec 16 is not deductible in computing taxable income.
- Sec 43B(h): dues to micro and small enterprises not paid within the Sec 15 time limit are allowed only in the year of actual payment. CBDT has clarified that the provision does not cover traders registered on Udyam; confirm the supplier's activity. Check the corresponding provision for years governed by the Income-tax Act, 2025.
- Medium enterprises fall outside Sec 15–16; their dues follow contract terms.

Assumptions
- Interest is cumulative from the appointed day to the payment date, or to the reporting date for invoices unpaid at year end. Item (e) is net of interest already paid.
- Item (f) equals the cumulative unpaid interest in (e), which stays disallowed under Sec 23 until paid. Add balances from earlier years not in this register.
- Interest paid entered in the register is treated as paid during the year.
- Ageing covers only invoices dated on or before the reporting date and unpaid at that date. Medium enterprises appear under "Others".
- 43B(h) covers invoices dated in the reporting year. Unpaid invoices whose due date falls after the reporting date go to the watchlist: they are disallowed only if payment later misses the due date.
